A History of the Iconic Statue

The Construction of a Masterpiece

The statue was the brainchild of Catholic archbishop Sebastião Leme da Silveira Cintra and was designed by French sculptor Paul Landowski. The construction, supervised by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, took nine years to complete.
