Steelers Offense Shows Progress in Preseason Loss

Wilson and Fields Lead Touchdown Drives

Steelers Lose 24-17 to Lions

DETROIT, Mich. (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers offense showed signs of improvement in a 24-17 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday night.

Quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields led touchdown drives, and running back Cordarrelle Patterson rushed for a 31-yard touchdown in the first half.

The Steelers won the coin toss and marched down the field on their opening drive, with Wilson completing passes to wide receivers Diontae Johnson and George Pickens.

Fields entered the game in the second quarter and led a touchdown drive of his own, capped by a 10-yard pass to tight end Pat Freiermuth.

The Steelers' defense also played well, forcing two turnovers and sacking Lions quarterback Jared Goff twice.

However, the Steelers were unable to overcome a slow start and several penalties.

The Lions took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a field goal and a touchdown pass from Goff to wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

The Steelers cut the lead to 10-7 on Patterson's touchdown run, but the Lions extended their lead to 17-7 on a touchdown pass from Goff to wide receiver Josh Reynolds.

The Steelers added a field goal late in the third quarter, but the Lions scored a touchdown on a 4-yard run by running back Jamaal Williams to put the game away.

The Steelers will play their next preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, August 26.
