Roger Schmidt has been sacked as Bayer Leverkusen head coach after a 3-0 Europa League defeat at home to Atalanta. The German club have won just one of their last eight games in all competitions and are currently 12th in the Bundesliga. Schmidt, who joined Leverkusen in 2014, led the club to the Champions League knockout stages in 2016-17. However, he has come under increasing pressure in recent months due to the team's poor form.
Bayer Leverkusen have announced that Tayfun Korkut will take over as head coach until the end of the season. Korkut, who was previously in charge of Stuttgart, has signed a contract until June 2017.
